Teachers from around the area come to CSULB to show off some of their best demonstrations in areas such as of force and motion & energy and momentum. The PhysTEC Demo Days also give the teachers a chance to collaborate and meet one another. Demonstrations cover a whole range of topics and teachers walk away from the experience having at least a couple of new ideas.
Our next Demo Sharing Day is scheduled on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 4:30-5:30pm. Please contact Chuhee Kwon to RSVP by Monday, March 5, 2012 to receive complimentary parking.
These events will take place the second Thursday of each month. Demo days will be in PH1-219 (please note new location!).
Upcoming Demo Days (Topic: Your favorite Physics demo):
February 9 – Electricity & Magnetism
March 8 – Waves/Sound/Optics
April 12 – Thermo & Nuclear
May 17 (3rd Thursday because of AP exams) – Projects & post AP/CST activities
If you are in need of parking, please contact Chuhee Kwon at chuhee.kwon@csulb.edu to receive a free parking pass on the Monday before the Demo Day.
We had a great turn out at the Physics Teacher Fall 2011 Open House. Attendees were introduced to research interests of Dr. Thomas Gredig's Nanotechnology for Solar Cells. We were happy to have so many high school students attend this event. Teachers and students also had the opportunity to meet other physics faculty members during brunch at the faculty restaurant on campus followed panel discussion in which students learned about the doors opened by a degree in Physics.
