Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program at Rio Hondo College 2011

The phlebotomist plays a critical role in obtaining blood samples for diagnosis of disease and the monitoring of treatments. The Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program trains students to perform venipuncture, and capillary puncture and provides instruction in the correct methods for transporitng, handling and processing of blood specimens for laboratory analysis. The program includes medical terminology, infection control, saftey basic anatomy and physiology, quality assurance and medical-legal issues related to phlebotomy. Students must successfuly complete 45 hours of in-class coursework before advancing to 100 hours of supervised clinical training at one of six participating local hospitals.
